A SHOUT INTO THE WIND HUUTO TUULEEN
Finland 2007, 55 min

A small community of indigenous Skolt Sámi Finns live in Sevettijärvi, northern Finland. The film’s main character, Veikko Feodoroff, would like to establish an old people’s home for the Sámi living in the area. Currently, the elderly are transported hundreds of kilometres to a place where no-one speaks Skolt. A mining company interested in nickel exploration in the area also raises concerns.
Director Katja Gauriloff depicts the aging community’s struggle for survival in detail and with great compassion.
